چکیده

Using symmetric space techniques, we show that closed orbits of the Iwasawa subgroups of SO(2, l−1) naturally define singularities of a black hole causal structure in anti-de Sitter spaces in l ≥ 3 dimensions. In particular, we recover for l = 3 the non-rotating massive BTZ black hole. The method presented here is very simple and in principle generalizable to any semi-simple symmetric space.

Cardy-Verlinde Formula and Thermodynamics of Black Holes in de Sitter Spaces

We continue the study of thermodynamics of black holes in de Sitter spaces. In a previous paper (hep-th/0111093), we have shown that the entropy of cosmological horizon in the Schwarzschild-de Sitter solutions and topological de Sitter solutions can be expressed in a form of the Cardy-Verlinde formula, if one adopts the prescription to compute the gravitational mass from data at early or late t...

Near Horizon Geometry and Black Holes in Four Dimensions

A large class of extremal and near-extremal four dimensional black holes in M-theory feature near horizon geometries that contain three dimensional asymptotically anti-de Sitter spaces. Globally, these geometries are derived from AdS3 by discrete identifications. The microstates of such black holes can be counted by exploiting the conformal symmetry induced on the anti-de Sitter boundary, and t...

Surface counterterms and boundary stress-energy tensors for asymptotically non-anti-de Sitter spaces

For spaces which are not asymptotically anti-de Sitter where the asymptotic behavior is deformed by replacing the cosmological constant by a dilaton scalar potential, we show that it is possible to have well-defined boundary stress-energy tensors and finite Euclidean actions by adding appropriate surface counterterms. We illustrate the method by the examples of domain-wall black holes in gauged...

S-brane solutions in gauged and ungauged supergravities

We construct time dependent S-brane solutions in gauged and ungauged supergravities in various dimensions. The supergravity solutions we find are all special cases of solutions in gauged supergravities with symmetric potentials. We discuss some properties of these solutions and their relation to topological black holes in anti-de Sitter spaces. email: [email protected] email: [email protected]...

Black Holes and Wormholes in 2+1 Dimensions∗

Vacuum Einstein theory in three spacetime dimensions is locally trivial, but admits many solutions that are globally different, particularly if there is a negative cosmological constant. The classical theory of such locally “anti-de Sitter” spaces is treated in an elementary way, using visualizable models. Among the objects discussed are black holes, spaces with multiple black holes, their hori...
